So I was assured by the salesman over the phone that the ATP I was ordering was of a more recent supply. I asked if there was a safety and he said there was. There is no safety that I can find. Also, the rubber recoil buffer piece was supposed to have been resolved in the latest runs of these pistols. Mine was half falling off with the little projections on one side facing away from the internals----towards the end of the barrel. Am I right in assuming this is not a recent one?

Is the lack of a safety and the rubber buffer piece mis-installed the only issues with these first run pistols? If these are the only problems then I am not really too concerned and can superglue the rubber piece in place and I can do without the safety.

Should I return or exchange it? Or should I be fine? I am cool with keeping it as long as those are the only problems inherent with the earlier batch.

BTW, when I glue the rubber piece in place (if I keep it) those little fin projections are supposed to face the internals-towards the person holding it correct?

The projections should face backwards.  The newer ATPs have the following features

• Metal spring guide (Older one was plastic)
  
• Smooth orange plastic tip (Older one was threaded)
  
• Trigger safety integrated into the trigger like the old M series KWAs (Older trigger didn't have this integrated safety)

Niko and I have the older ATPs and other than changing the spring guide to a metal one, the guns are fine the way they are.

Thanks for the quick response. So I need a metal spring guide if I keep this one? Is this something I would have to order from KWA? And yes, it's definitely an older one.

Couple more ?'s for you.

1. What is the process for lubricating the 2 magazine valves?
2. Is the rear sight supposed to just slide around? Mine actually just fell right off.

Where did you by the gun from?

I have installed a Guarder KSC M17 metal guide rod with spring.  I have even used a TM M17 setup and although it was a tad longer than stock it worked great.

The only parts you would need to lube is the charging valve (place one drop on top of it) and the release valve (one drop and work it in).  And the rear sight is not supposed to move so use a bit of crazy glue and reattach.

Anyway, I got it from Pyramyd. I've always had outstanding service with them, so I'm certain this wasn't anything blatant. I'm probably going to just return it if they have the newer ones. I just don't want to mess with spring guides or anything else out of the box.....other than an initial cleaning/lubing.

Thanks for the info. You guys are a great help. I'm waiting on the sales guy to call me back. I'm probably going to just exchange it for a newer one if they have them. I just don't want to have to fuss with anything other than cleaning/lubing.

If you can, that's what I would do.  You might as well get the latest greatest.

Out of curiousity, does having the metal spring guide rather than the plastic one make that big of a difference? If so, how? Simply lasts longer?

Durability.  Also, the plastic one shifted a few times on me making it difficult to field strip.

i have the old Atp, i got it from the first batch Airsoft GI got, and i had every problem you can imagine. but if you work with it instead of being a cod fanboy, you can work it into a great gun, its unstoppable on the feild.

in mine i put a recoil spring guide, $13? nbd. i play cqb so i dont need high output valves.

I agree.  I tore mine down completely a few times and fixed all the problems.  It was fun for me.
