The debate question to the best bore size, for the longest time, has been "What is the magic number?" Some believe is 6.03, some believe it's 6.05, some believe it's 6.08, while general consensus has come to believe that tightest without jamming is best, which is 6.01. I won't say which is true but hopefully you'll get the general picture of where debate going, if I said, people who claim 6.03mm is the best has seen it out perform any other tight bore. People who claim 6.05mm is the best has seen it out perform any other tight bore. People who claim 6.08mm is the best has seen it out perform any other tight bore. People who claim 6.01mm is the best has seen it out perform any other tight bore. Repeat this for 6.02, 6.04, and so on.
Frankly, I can tell that the people in this thread who use or look forward to the 6.01mm and 6.02mm tightbore barrels by Edgi and KM, know that the quality of the inner barrel is more important the bore size, and would not have used these brand tight bores if they didn't see better results.
Probably why there is so much debate and different results is because people are simply comparing bore sizes rather than the quality of the inner barrel. Ever heard people claim that their PDI 6.05mm shoots better than their Prommy 6.03mm? Yet you also have to realize that the PDI is like 3 times more expensive than the Prommy barrel, and then wonder that maybe there is really more than just the bore size. A few years back, there was some lab results that one group came out with that showed the circular consistency of the inner barrel. Believe it or not, when you zoom in to microscopic levels where the human eye can't simply tell, barrels are not perfectly circle. The ones that are more circular and straighter, throughout the barrel than others, are cut and finished more precisely than others. In that article, even tough the Prommy proved to be more circular than majority of the other brands, PDI showed to be even more precise, which makes sense to how people attained better results.
This idea of a smooth, precise, more circular bore through a barrel is consistent with the idea that when a brass barrel smooths out (micro-hone) that it becomes more accurate and thus performs better at farther ranges.
