Hello, I'm new to the forum so I really have no idea the rules, I apologize in advance if I break any of them. I will shortly receive my KWA MP7, and I'm torn between using Propane and Green gas.  I prefer propane due to how cheap it is, but I've also heard its "dirty", puts more wear on your GBB, and voids your KWA Warranty.  While Green gas is "safer" but much more expensive, I've heard reports of the hop up bucking shrinking due to the lube in Green gas (http://www.airsoftfo...rs-t174756.html)

Welcome to the forum. Propane does put more wear on your GBB, it leaves substances in the gun which cause internal decay. With the use of propane you may notice different performance, this is not a good thing. Your gun may not cycle properly as a result. You will definitely see less problems with green gas than with propane. I highly recommend you use green gas in the MP7.
As for breaking the rules, you seem to not be.

Hey Hulmeman, welcome aboard.  The rules are simple, be respectful of others, no selling on the Forums, and use a bit of common sense and you should be fine.  aasp59 covered most of your question.  Regarding bucking shrinkage....no, this isn't an issue with green gas.  Rather, the bucking can swell if spay silicon is used on the bucking, in the hop-up or barrel. I myself have the MP7 and have fired it using green gas exclusively.  I have had the gun since launch, fired thousands of rounds, and never had a problem....you should be fine with green gas too.  Hope this helps and good luck with your MP7.

Thanks for the help guys! I was always under the idea that green gas was just propane w/ silicone, looks like I'll be using it though.  Rules seem simple enough, I think I can handle them haha.  Thanks again!

Well it is, but according to some it has some additives that green gas doesnt.

The propane vs green gas topic has been asked a billion times on here, and it just opens up to a debate of the people just repeating others, wiki, Airsoft innovation, vs. people who looked further into it and have reasonable doubt.

I'll summarize it to...

Many current branded Green Gas cans CONTAIN Propane.
However, Propane simply is NOT Green Gas.
Not all Green Gas contained Propane. (Sapien Arms GG, for example, supposedly was NOT flammable like current GG.)
Therefore, Green Gas is NOT Propane.

In terms of KWA being able to run propane reliably is more of a question of what lubricant you use, as several have already mentioned above. Do NOT use Silicon Spray, that is sold in spray cans, even the ones sold at Airsoft Retailers. Use 100% Silicone Oil that comes in a bottle, like RC Shock Oil Wt. 25 or 30, so the bucking does not swell.

Welcome to the forum Hulmeman!! I prefer green gas in all of my KWA guns for best performance... Here's what Radix (KWA's big boss) has to say about the use of propane:

"Propane fuel tanks contain an odorant (ethyl mercaptan) which is known to "attack" some forms of plastic, rubber, and coatings. This is one of the many reasons why we don't recommend it. If you "must", please make sure you have a "rigorous" cleaning/maintenance schedule to ensure there are no build-ups of residue that may gunk up the vital parts of the gun."

So I suggest using green gas.

Ok, i bought my green gas today, fired off a couple mags & it felt great, no propane smell ejected into my face, and a lower fps (as opposed to propane) for my cqb field, but I only have on question remaining: How full do i fill my magazines?  Now i know this sounds fairly simple, but I read that you can "overcharge" your gas magazines with gas, causing damage to the magazine.  So for a 40rd magazine how long should i hold the gas down?  Last time i did 10-15 seconds and it worked great, even lasted 2 mags, but Im afraid I "overcharged" it.  Anyone know about this?

Overcharging means gas is being expelled from the valve in all directions. The KWA manual suggests you charge the magazine until you see the gas spew in every direction. I like to listen to the gas go into the magazine, there's a little noise it makes. But, you should charge your magazine for 5 second intervals with a few seconds rest in between. I say do 4-5 charging intervals... weather also affects how much gas you are putting into your magazine... If it's hotter, the gas will expand more and have more room in the magazine to have more gas.

What Outlaw is posting regarding the manual is correct.  However, you can't overcharge the mag, at least not and cause any damage.  Waste gas, yes.  Simply fill the mag until the gas flow stops from the can.

Having the gas spew out is horrible. You can get freaking frost bite from it. Too cold. But its something you have to put up with when owning a GBB!
I usually do intervals, always try to make sure the gas is actually going into the mag as well.

Well i don't know about you guys but the mags we get here in the Philippines has a o-ring installed in the charging valve so there is no spewing of gas. I usually load it listening for the sound of gas entering it until i can't hear it anymore and then count 10 secs.

It doesn't happen when the gas nozzle isn't properly aligned?

Yeah, that's what I meant. Sorry for not clarifying. And yes, you must have the charging valve of the can directly above the fill valve to get the best charge. If you can't line it up correctly, gas will spew in each direction and may cause frostbite.
And yes again, the o rings go around the fill valve to prevent gas leaks.

I have used green gas in my MP7 and M9 since day one.  I never ran any propane through it and I never will.  

I have a KJW, whose internals are pretty durable, more so than KWA's as far as buckings and such are concerned.  I used propane in it for a little while, cleaned it, however now the magazines leak.  I put new o-rings on, and within a week or two they went bad again.  I don't know how much scientific "evidence" there is to back this up but I think whatever may or not be mixed with the propane was making the seals/o-rings deteriorate.  I haven't been able to fix the leaking ones.  It also seems to shoot another 5-10fps harder on propane rather than green gas.  I don't know if the same thing will happen with KWA mags.  Judging by the inconsistency in opinions on here I think the brand of propane you use makes a difference.

Bottom line?  Use propane if you want.  KWA will NOT do warranty service, but they WILL fix it for a fee.  Green gas is the safe way to go.

Green gas is essentially propane, with a different smell. I've been using green gas for the warrenty of the gun, but then switched over to propane for its low cost, and still my gun works flawlessly. FPS does seem to be a bit lower when I used green gas compared to propane. Yes it voids warrenty, so wait for the 45 day to run out. Propane really doesn't affect the gun in a negative way, as for residue, it leaves a small amount, but I do keep my gun well cleaned and maintained. Overall it comes down to choice, Either works fine and won't cause harm to the gun, or it's seals, just maintain a more regular cleaning schedule.

Since it seems most people here are using green gas I figure I'll pipe in; I've been running Coleman propane through my MP7 for about a year now with 0/6 mags leaking (ever), a perfectly good action, great hop-up, high power (especially when it's warm outside, which for me is considered anything above 50 degrees), and tons of kills. Should you run propane? You tell me; do you enjoy opening your gun after every game day to inspect and clean the internals? If no, then stick with green gas. I happen to very much enjoy breaking the gun down like the real thing to clean it and lube to parts, so it's not really an inconveniences as much as it's a cool part of owning the gun for me. Plus, this way I'm forced to see the insides after every match so if something is wrong I'll see it before the next game. Currently I'm using Froglube to do the internals, but I still have yet to be 100% sure that it's completely safe for the guns.
